How To Manually Upgrade A Wordpress To The Latest Version

One year back when i decided to become a blogger used my own domain name, my friend of mine who owned DailyFreeware.net notice me to try Wordpress. Besides a one of easy-to-use CMS, Wordpress also has integrated with plugin system and there are many of themes that completely free of cost to download. In order to increase the performance and security issue, the developer always release the new version depending on a bug that have found on the previous version. Here’s 8 steps to upgrade wordpress :

  1. In order to upgrade, you need to download the latest version of Wordpress from here, there are available with two version archive zip (For Windows you can get ZIP file, while Linux in TAR.GZ type), then save into your local driver
  2. Extract the latest Wordpress version, that you’ve download before. Hit the right button (right click) on your mouse and choose Extract To Wordpress bla bla bla. For example, you’ve download the wordpress 2.3.2, you can choose extract to wordpress 2.3.2, so you no needed to create a new folder.
  3. Login into your blog dashboard (http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin), after logged on, Deactive all plugin before you start to upgrade
  4. Login to cpanel and backup your exiting database via PHPMySQL
  5. And now, you can upload the latest version of wordpress into your hosting. If your PCs still not install an FTP tool, you can use FileZilla, this free software support for resume uploading/downloading. You can download from here. Don’t forget to setup the FileZilla to your PC!
  6. Run your filezilla, fill out the Host name with your ftp server that you’ve get from your hosting provider following the username and password. Hit quick connect button and wait a moment for connection process.
  7. If have connected, you can upload all files residing in outside of folder, including WP-admin, WP-included but remember DO NOT make a change your wp-config.php file and WP-content file cause the wp-config contains the configuration of your wordpress with database, while WP-content contains your plugins and themes, once again DO NOT make a change or replace that file and folder.
  8. Now, you can run the upgrade process. Open a new browser and fill type http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php and hit enter. There are just two steps, You’ll found something written : This file upgrades you from any previous version of WordPress to the latest. It may take a while though, so be patient. Upgrade WordPress ยป , Hit the Upgrade Wordpress, and it’ll direct you to next process like : There’s actually only one step. So if you see this, you’re done. Have fun! It means you’ve success to upgrade your blog. To make sure, login into your dashboard and see at the bottom of dashboard to check what version of wordpress that you used.
